Breastfeeding and HIV

LCGBNews

LCGB welcome the new World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) documents and statement including the latest recommendations for breastfeeding in the context of HIV as part of the celebration of World AIDS Day. As IBCLCs it’s important to keep up to date with current evidence for practice, this is especially pertinent in the context of HIV. There have been recent changes that now include the possibility of continuing breastfeeding for mothers with an undetectable viral load along side the introduction of solids from 6-24 months. This will be a welcome change for breastfeeding families.
