Where do IBCLCs work?

Being an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) identifies that the individual is highly experienced, trained and qualified to inform and support parents and babies to breastfeed.  To be an IBCLC identified the person to be knowledgeable in all areas of lactation and able to assist with basic and complex breastfeeding challenges.  They are considered to be a lactation expert, holding an  internationally recognised breastfeeding credential.

IBCLCs are regulated by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) www.iblce.org and work within a Code of Professional Conduct and are subject to disciplinary procedure.  To maintain their certification all IBCLCs are required to meet strict criteria to recertify every 5 years.
